According to the National Office of Statistics, in 2026, the 45+ generation outnumbered the younger ones in Hungary, for the first time in history (50.13%).
We feel the responsibility that comes with that fact. We are the ones in decision-making positions; we have the power to contribute to change.
Also, the 45-65 generation is the one to look after both the young and the old. The sandwich generation...
What do we do about it? We create a new paradigm: Caring Communities
Beyond the Social Permaculture Design Framework, our work and intervention approach are largely based on Deborah Frieze’s social change model.

Hi, my name is Kinga. After more than 20 years of working as an NGO expert, activist, researcher, rural developer, and elderly carer, I came to a clear conclusion: we need a far more conscious approach to ageing. Through professional and personal experience, it became evident that ageing affects individuals, families, communities, and societies in ways that demand greater awareness, responsibility, and coordinated action.
In 2017, my sister Milena and I launched the Conscious Ageing Community, beginning with grassroots community-building and gradually developing an organisational framework around it. In 2019, we founded the Hekate Conscious Ageing Foundation in the Netherlands. Over the past years, we have achieved a great deal together: implementing projects, building structures, engaging in advocacy, and developing strong cooperation with organisations, experts, and committed community members.
Our work has a primarily European focus. We firmly believe that in the face of shared global and local challenges, Europeans are stronger when we build care-, ageing-, and sustainability-related structures together, across borders and sectors.
As the organisation and its wider social ecosystem grew, and as our activities increasingly took place in Hungary, it became clear that a dedicated Hungarian organisation was needed. As a result, the Hekate Conscious Ageing Foundation was also established in Hungary in 2025. Since then, the Hungarian foundation has been actively contributing to societal change around ageing and care.
It is deeply inspiring to see that more and more people are becoming aware of demographic ageing and the collective responsibility it brings. I am grateful to everyone who has contributed to this journey so far, and I look forward to continuing our work together to realise our shared vision of a more conscious, harmonious, and caring society.
In 2026 we launched our human friendly social platform. We are going to work hard to make it a great space for community learning and co-creation. It is free for everyone.
