JANOSHIDA2030
A Flagship Programme for Age-Friendly and Sustainable Rural Development
JANOSHIDA2030 is a long-term, place-based development programme initiated by Conscious Ageing Hungary in strategic partnership with Jánoshida Municipality. The programme responds to the intertwined challenges of demographic ageing, rural sustainability, and social cohesion, while actively building a positive, future-oriented vision for rural life.
Designed as an integrated framework rather than a single project, JANOSHIDA2030 supports local communities in adapting to demographic change through conscious ageing, care-centred development, and ecological regeneration. It aligns local action with European priorities related to sustainability, social inclusion, and quality of life across the life course.
Vision and Objectives
The core vision of JANOSHIDA2030 is to ensure that rural communities remain livable, resilient, and socially connected in the face of ageing populations and structural change. The programme promotes ageing not as a burden, but as a valuable life phase that can contribute knowledge, care, and stability to local communities.
Key objectives of the programme include:
- supporting age-friendly local governance and long-term strategic planning
- strengthening social infrastructure and community-based care solutions
- fostering intergenerational cooperation and participation
- integrating environmental sustainability into local development
- creating locally rooted, transferable models for rural regeneration
A Partnership-Based Approach
JANOSHIDA2030 is built on close cooperation between the municipality, civil society, and local residents. Conscious Ageing Hungary provides strategic consultancy, facilitation, and expert input, while Jánoshida Municipality ensures institutional embedding and long-term continuity.
This partnership-based governance model enables the programme to move beyond short-term interventions and develop systemic responses that are locally adapted, socially inclusive, and scalable. Community engagement and participatory processes are central elements, ensuring that local knowledge and lived experience inform both planning and implementation.

Core Programme Areas
JANOSHIDA2030 integrates multiple thematic areas into a coherent development framework:
Conscious Ageing and Care
The programme supports the development of age-friendly services, informal care networks, and community-based support systems that enhance autonomy, dignity, and well-being for older people.
Social Infrastructure and Community Life
JANOSHIDA2030 strengthens spaces and initiatives that encourage social connection, participation, and mutual support, with a strong emphasis on intergenerational exchange.
Environmental Sustainability and Regeneration
Ecological thinking is embedded throughout the programme, linking land use, food systems, and climate resilience with social and care-related goals.
Local Capacity Building
Training, learning processes, and knowledge exchange support local actors, municipal staff, and community members in developing skills relevant to long-term sustainability and ageing-aware development.
Cooperation with Szent Norbert Elderly Club
An integral element of JANOSHIDA2030 is the dementia garden of the Szent Norbert Elderly Club and the Hekate Garden. Both are permaculture sites established in Jánoshida as a practical platform for regeneration, learning, and community engagement. The gardens connect environmental sustainability with conscious ageing by offering a space for shared work, training, and reflection.
As the gardens develop, they function as local and regional training sites, demonstrating how ecological regeneration can support social resilience and meaningful participation across generations.
European Relevance and Transferability
While deeply rooted in the local context of Jánoshida, JANOSHIDA2030 is designed with European relevance in mind. The programme addresses challenges common to many rural regions across Europe, including ageing populations, youth outmigration, and the need for sustainable service models.
By integrating governance, care, community development, and environmental regeneration, JANOSHIDA2030 offers a transferable framework that can inform national and EU-level initiatives, research projects, and funding programmes.
Looking Ahead
JANOSHIDA2030 is an evolving programme with a long-term horizon extending to 2030 and beyond. Through continuous learning, partnership, and innovation, it aims to demonstrate that rural communities can remain vibrant and caring places throughout demographic transition.
The programme stands as a flagship example of Conscious Ageing Hungary’s commitment to care-centred, sustainable, and inclusive futures.
